Hypnotherapy & Unexplained Infertility

The emotions and feelings that come from living through infertility are vast, blame, shame, guilt, to name a few of the worst culprits.

Throw into the mix no medical diagnosis for the infertility, and emotions and stresses continue to spiral. After an initial year or two of trying before anyone will refer you for tests, you then get a diagnosis of unexplained infertility. Then you can add lost, abandoned and confused to that concoction of emotions that will undoubtedly raise cortisol levels and create stress and anxiety.

I have seen and read many success stories of hypnotherapy working to assist conception. in couples with a diagnosis of unexplained infertility.

So how does it help?

  • In the Journal Of The American Medical Women's Association a study showed that 42 percent of 132 women experiencing difficulty becoming pregnant conceived within six months of completing a mind/body programme

  • Research has revealed that Hypnotherapy is an effective aid not only in natural conception but also when used in conjunction with IVF.

  • Fertility and Sterility also published a study, showing that 55 percent of the previously infertile women who used mind/body techniques conceived, compared with 20 per cent of the control group who didn't use these techniques.

  • An Israeli study of 185 women found that the success rate of IVF treatments doubled from one to 28 percent when the subjects had hypnosis during the implantation

The Journal of The Indian Medical Association reported on another study

"The couples with reproductive failure reported for treatment. Over a period of 28 years, 554 couples without any anatomical or physiological anomaly were studied. Psychotherapeutic intervention with indirect and direct hypnosis was added to the standard protocol for investigation and therapy of infertile couples.

Several stressors were identified. Stress of barrenness was seen in 100% of women. Other stressors of marital life were identified. Hypnotherapy was targeted at general stress relief initially and, towards the specific stressor/s subsequently. The results were judged as success in terms of occurrence of pregnancy. The success rate was 71.67%."
